About

Passionate about the history of Normandy

My name is Bertrand Couillard. I was born and have always lived in Normandy. Since childhood, I have been interested in the history of my region, particularly the Allied landings and the battles that followed during the summer 1944. These events are all the more significant for me as Normandy still retains the visible traces of this past.

A career made of encounters

After studying logistics and international business, I have worked for 20 years in industry. During these years, I had the chance to meet people from different cultures with whom I could share my knowledge about D-Day.  I had the opportunity to guide some of them on the sites of the landing beaches and these experiences confirmed my desire to devote myself fully to it by creating D-Day In One Day.

Steeped in history places to discover

I like to make visitors discover these stepped in history places and sites so that they can better understand these events. I think knowing the past helps to better understand the present. At a time when the last witnesses of these tragic period are gradually disappearing, i also hope to humbly contribute to the transmission of memory, so as not to forget what happened almost 80 years ago now.

A journey in the past

To guide you, I base myself on period photographs and take you where they were taken. I also use reproductions of period maps and documents. Finally, it is important for me to connect these events with personal stories of soldiers and civilians.
