First, we were very grateful to find a guide who would drive us nearly 3 hours round trip (from our cruise port in Le Havre to Omaha Beach area) on a cold, rainy, windy December day. Bertrand, our guide, was very kind, accommodating of our various requests, and knowledgeable. He made the sites come alive, as if the events that saved the world that June day in 1944 were happening before our eyes. Among the sites we visited were Point du Hoc, Omaha beach, and the American soldiers’ cemetery. Bertrand clearly reveres the sacrifices made by the Allies to spill their blood to save Europe from facism. I can’t imagine anyone making this experience more fascinating, emotional and memorable.
